Leisure in Cyprus

The best place to meet people and shoot them

Sometimes, after spending a lot of time with friends or family, you can all just feel like shooting each other. Live out that fantasy at one of Cyprus’ four fully-licensed paintballing centres. Each is safe and well-equipped; take out all that aggression and stress with mock battles around ruinous villages, storming castles or even try some floodlit fighting and you’ll all be best friends again afterwards.

Equestrian delights

Horse riding is extremely popular in Cyprus and there are stables all over the island. If you’ve never ridden before, many provide lessons and, once you’re confident, you can head out into the breath-taking surroundings of the Cypriot countryside for what is a truly special experience. Most stables offer organised treks – from one hour to a full day including stop offs for lunch and drinks – or, if you’ve plenty of experience, just head out and revel in the wonderful flora and fauna of Cyprus all alone.

Sampling the nightlife

After all that entertainment, it’ll be time to enjoy a few drinks and, whether your idea of a good night out is a romantic meal for two or an energetic evening clubbing with friends, Cyprus won’t disappoint. The old streets of Ayia Napa are a high-octane clubber’s paradise while Limassol is maybe a calmer and more refined version of the same appeal. If you prefer a more cosmopolitan atmosphere, Nicosia is a modern and cool alternative, while Larnaca is a little more relaxed, but still has plenty of beachside bars, restaurants and discos.

For the older thrill-seeker

While holidaying couples, young parents and older teens in Cyprus will certainly enjoy many of Cyprus’ more traditional charms, the young at heart can still indulge in some mindless fun and frivolity.

The ultimate adrenaline rush

Those in search of the ultimate adrenaline rush usually head for Nissi Beach – just outside Ayia Napa – and jump off a 200ft-high crane. No, they’re not members of the ever-diminishing Cypriot Suicides Club, but are taking advantage of the superb Bungee Jumping Downunder which was established in 1992. The platform extends out over the Med giving jumpers fantastic views and a little dip at the end of their fall.
